Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black III has had an unorthodox production schedule. The film started shooting in November with an incomplete script, scheduled a hiatus from December to mid-February to fix the rest of the script, and then pick back up and finish the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures took this bizarre route because they wanted to take advantage of tax breaks in New York City and spring weather.
However, the hiatus has now passed and the script still isn’t finished. As we reported last week, screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man) has been brought in to fix the script by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) and later Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 2). But THR reports that those re-writes aren’t going smoothly as the project is caught between Sonnenfeld, producer Walter Parkes, and star Will Smith. Hit the jump for more details.
The plot of Men in Black III has Smith’s Agent J traveling back in time to 1969 to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and thus save the world from a villain played by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords). The film, which is set to be released in 3D on May 25, 2012, also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Alec Baldwin, Rip Torn, and Sharlto Copley.
Sony reportedly started production last year because they were afraid that New York’s tax breaks might expire (instead, they were extended by five years). Plus, Smith, Jones, and Sonnenfeld were all ready to return and the studio didn’t want to miss the opportunity to deliver the third installment of a franchise that has netted the studio over $1 billion worldwide in box office alone. Factor in all the merchandising that the property offers, and it’s not hard to see why Sony moved forward on a $200 million sequel despite an incomplete script.
But that script may end up costing far more than the studio stands to gain from the tax breaks it received. Parkes and Sonnenfeld are reportedly pulling the script in different directions and Smith is under no pressure to approve a script that isn’t to his liking. Furthermore, time travel scripts can be tricky and the problem is compounded by the fact that the first act of the movie is in the can and so there’s only so much freedom a writer has to tweak the remainder of the film.
All of this would be upsetting if I was looking forward to a third Men in Black movie. Thankfully, I could care less about the future of this franchise (although obviously I’m concerned about the potential jobs lost for the crew) and it’s far more fascinating to watch the behind-the-scenes drama rather than any wacky alien hijnks the sequel may offer. Internet Movie Database has a new upcoming rumored project listed for Alice. Accoring to IMDb, Alice will be staring in the upcoming film, Dolly Dimple as Katie Masters. “Dolly Dimple” has been slated as a dramatic thriller scheduled to come out later this year. Take a look at the synopsis below:
A struggling young writer finds the seemingly abandoned stories of a little girl and publishes them as her own work to much acclaim. She comes under the scrutiny of a mysterious man who claims to be the little girl’s father, and rather than risk being revealed as a plagiarist, becomes his pawn in an enigmatic and dangerous life-threatening journey.
So far, Alice is the only actor listed in this film which is currently in the pre-production stages. Mark Pellington wrote and will direct the movie.
It was recently reported that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have auditioned for a role in the upcoming “Superman” reboot. It was confirmed that they were testing for a part that was not Lois Lane.
LatinoReview has now learned from a very reliable source that Lois Lane will still be in the film and that the character that the three actresses are vying for is Kryptonian villainess Ursa. The character has already appeared in both “Superman: The Movie” and “Superman II,” played by British actress Sarah Douglas. She was part of a group of three members, lead by General Zod.
This news may confirm earlier rumors that Zod will be the main villain in the film, despite the fact that about four months ago director Zack Snyder said that Zod will not appear in the reboot. But that was four month ago and things may have changed. (Source)
With Henry Cavill set as the Man of Steel, Warner Bros. now moves on to its female lead, and a short list of contenders is coming together. Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have emerged as the three thesps being considered for the character, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed — but it’s not Lois Lane.
Early reports had names such as Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as female leads, but sources tell Variety that the studio doesn’t want a name that could overshadow its leading man.
Eve has the most modest resume, but has seen her profile grow in the last year after starring in Paramount’s “She’s Out of My League.” Besides “Superman,” Eve was also considered one of the front runners for roles in “X-Men: First Class” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Pike has been on Hollywood’s radar since her turn as a Bond girl in “Die Another Day” and has since had several supporting roles, including “An Education” and “Barney’s Version.”
Kruger has had significant leads in both “National Treasure” films, “Troy” and “Inglourious Basterds” — but this would mark one of the biggest leading roles she has landed.
Studio is also currently putting a search out for its villain as well, but no names have been set in stone. Zack Snyder is directing from a script by David Goyer with Christopher Nolan producing. Studio is looking to start production this summer with a December release date.
All three thesps are repped by UTA. Eve is also repped by Untitled and Pike by Magnolia Entertainment. (Source)
Alice attended the British Comedy Awards 2011 last night. Alice looked gorgeous in her black dress and very light blonde hair.
The British Comedy Awards were held last night and they did not fail to impress. The venue was buzzing with celebrities, comedians and comediennes alike. The gang of partiers included Pineapple Studio’s star Louis Spence, Noel Fielding who always tries to dress to impress and the you’ve been tangoed cast of The Only Way Is Essex.
Jonathan Ross was the host of the night and introduced many laughs to the audience. One gag centered around Eammon Holmes and Ross spoke of him being “The elephant in the room”. He also spoke about Sir Elton John and David Furnish’s new baby and joked “David, if you’re watching the baby needs changing. Elton’s bored with it already.”

Relativity Medias has acquired the marketing and distribution rights for director James McTeigue’s new movie, The Raven, the studio announced via a press release. The movie was produced by Intrepid Pictures, and stars John Cusack, Luke Evans, Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
The Raven is a fictionalized story of the end of Edgar Allan Poe’s life, as he trails a serial killer who copies killings detailed in his work. The movie began shooting in Hungary in November before it moved to Serbia last month. Production wrapped earlier this month.
‘Bruce Almighty’ writer Ben Livingston and ‘Loverboy’ author Hannah Shakespeare penned ‘The Raven,’ which is being produced by Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans. The two producers released a joint statement, saying they’re excited to be working Relativity on the movie. “We’re also very pleased that Relativity is committed to helping deliver this film to the widest possible audience,” they added. It appears the name “Emily” will hopefully be a good luck charm for Alice in 2011. It’s been revealed Alice will be playing a character by the name “Emily” in not one, but two films!
Alice’s character name in ATM has been revealed: Emily. ATM is a thriller about three co-workers trapped in an ATM machine by an unknown stranger fighting for their lives.
Alice will not be playing the role of Virgina Clemm-Poe in the upcoming film, The Raven, as previously reported. Alice will be featured as a woman named Emily – though it is unspecified how her character will pertain to the story. The Raven is a fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer whose murders mirror those in the writer’s stories.
Neither film has a set release date as of yet.
With Alice news a bit slow lately, I’ve added a couple new photoshoots of Alice from across the years. Hopefully more images will surface shortly as these images are gorgeous! Head over to the gallery for the latest additions.
