Details on “The Raven” Emerge

Producer Mark D. Evans had lots to say plot-wise about James McTeigue’s upcoming flick The Raven starring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe, Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans and Alice Eve. Check out the fresh info courtesy of Screen Daily below:

“Historically what happened was Poe had disappeared, then turned up on a park bench in someone else’s clothes, fell into a coma and died,” said Evans. “We’re playing with the historical happenstance of what could have happened in those missing days.”

The Raven begins with Poe (played by Cusack) arriving in Baltimore as a serial killer is terrorizing the city, using the writer’s stories as the inspiration for his crimes. Poe is a suspect at first, but he eventually joins forces with a police inspector to solve the crimes and save the woman he loves.

“It’s hard to replicate 1849 Baltimore in Baltimore,” he continued. “It became apparent that we’d have to create our own vision of the city. James [McTeigue, director] was trying to show Baltimore through Poe’s eyes, which is a darker, macabre vision of the city. That gave us some creative latitude to look domestically and internationally for a location that would allow us to get as much money on the screen as possible.”

Update on “Dolly Dimple”

Although Alice’s name is the only one attached to the drama-thriller currently, Dolly Dimple has officially moved into pre-production casting stages. Written by Glenn Porter and directed by Mark Pellington “Dolly Dimple” is expected to be released in late 2011 or sometime 2012.

Alice’s involvement with the project has yet to be confirmed but Internet Movie Database has Alice slated to play “Katie Masters.” Fans should be advised IMDB is not an official website but user updated so take the information with caution, nothing is set in stone yet.

A struggling young writer finds the seemingly abandoned stories of a little girl and publishes them as her own work to much acclaim. She comes under the scrutiny of a mysterious man who claims to be the little girl’s father, and rather than risk being revealed as a plagiarist, becomes his pawn in an enigmatic and dangerous life-threatening journey.

Rebecca Taylor Store Opening Party

Alice attended the Rebecca Taylor Store Opening Party March 23rd in New York City. Despite unseasonal snow and hail in New York, stylish stars put on their best spring attire and flocked to the opening of Rebecca Taylor’s new Meatpacking District flagship store.

The gorgeous gals sipped wines by Kim Crawford and danced the night away to DJ Danny Rockz beats. During the party, Rebecca held a raffle for a one-of-a-kind gown designed exclusively for her film Beautiful Dream. All proceeds from the raffle were donated to the American Red Cross efforts in Japan.

Multiple Problems Plague Incomplete “Men in Black III”

Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black III has had an unorthodox production schedule. The film started shooting in November with an incomplete script, scheduled a hiatus from December to mid-February to fix the rest of the script, and then pick back up and finish the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures took this bizarre route because they wanted to take advantage of tax breaks in New York City and spring weather.

However, the hiatus has now passed and the script still isn’t finished. As we reported last week, screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man) has been brought in to fix the script by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) and later Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 2). But THR reports that those re-writes aren’t going smoothly as the project is caught between Sonnenfeld, producer Walter Parkes, and star Will Smith. Hit the jump for more details.

The plot of Men in Black III has Smith’s Agent J traveling back in time to 1969 to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and thus save the world from a villain played by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords). The film, which is set to be released in 3D on May 25, 2012, also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Alec Baldwin, Rip Torn, and Sharlto Copley.

Sony reportedly started production last year because they were afraid that New York’s tax breaks might expire (instead, they were extended by five years). Plus, Smith, Jones, and Sonnenfeld were all ready to return and the studio didn’t want to miss the opportunity to deliver the third installment of a franchise that has netted the studio over $1 billion worldwide in box office alone. Factor in all the merchandising that the property offers, and it’s not hard to see why Sony moved forward on a $200 million sequel despite an incomplete script.

But that script may end up costing far more than the studio stands to gain from the tax breaks it received. Parkes and Sonnenfeld are reportedly pulling the script in different directions and Smith is under no pressure to approve a script that isn’t to his liking. Furthermore, time travel scripts can be tricky and the problem is compounded by the fact that the first act of the movie is in the can and so there’s only so much freedom a writer has to tweak the remainder of the film.

All of this would be upsetting if I was looking forward to a third Men in Black movie. Thankfully, I could care less about the future of this franchise (although obviously I’m concerned about the potential jobs lost for the crew) and it’s far more fascinating to watch the behind-the-scenes drama rather than any wacky alien hijnks the sequel may offer. Alice Eve Joins ‘Men In Black III’

Great news  Alice fans!  We have Breaking News via Deadline!

Alice Eve Joins ‘Men In Black III’ As Young Emma Thompson

When Men in Black III re-starts production next month, Alice Eve will play the younger version of Men in Black Agency head Emma Thompson in the time travel storyline. The British actress plays Olivia, hired as secretary for the Agency in 1969. While it appears she was given the job because of her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart. Sure enough, in the contemporary storyline, Thompson runs the place. Will Smith’s Agent J character is forced to travel back in time to team up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save the world. Eve just completed production on The Decoy Bride and starred with John Cusack in The Raven. She’s repped by Untitled, UTA and Artists Right Group. MIB III has extended a pre-planned holiday hiatus. With a skeleton staff in place, the filmmakers are taking extra time to hone the script. Director Barry Sonnenfeld has already assembled the footage shot so far, and insiders said that the film is still on track for its May 25, 2012 release by Sony Pictures.

Major Congratulations to the lovely actress.
